first time guest?

The search for a place of worship and fellowship is a very important one, and we might help you in your efforts to find a source of spiritual guidance.

We give thanks for the many diverse gifts of God among us and declare God's church to be open and affirming. All are welcome!

The teachings of Jesus Christ are as relevant now as ever, a light to guide us in the dark. This is especially important in the world we live in today, with so many in need of God’s Word. As you are seeking out His message, understand that He is seeking you as well:

Summer Hours: 9:00am Worship service and no Sunday School.

What You Can Expect

First Sunday Jitters?

We've all been there. Anytime a person attends a church for the first time it comes with butterflies, anxieties, and fears over the unexpected. Consider yourself normal. I pray these short notes will help settle your heart on what a first visit to AELC might be like.

What to Wear?

In terms of 'dress', AELC is a "come as you are" church. Some men wear blue jeans - others wear dress shirts - a few wear ties. Some ladies wear slacks - others wear dresses. In the summer, shorts are preferred by some. Seriously, from your pastor, wear what is most comfortable. Dress comfortably.

How old are people?

AELC is truly a church of all ages. You will not feel "out of place"

What time should I arrive?

Depends. During summer months, worship starts at 9 a.m.

During the school year, we offer 2 services which begin at 8:15am and 10:30 am. If you have no children and are easily 'mobile', then arrive by about 8:05 or 10:20 to be in the church by the time each service starts.

What is the worship like?

The word in Christian circles is: a traditional service at 8:15 and a contemporary/family oriented service at 10:30. During the summer months, service styles vary.

Children are ALWAYS welcome at either service but during the school year, a children's message with Pastor Tom is offered. Summer time too!

AELC worship offers a wonderful variety of acoustical, orchestral, guitars, drums, vocal ensembles, choirs, and yes, for those who grew up like me, we also incorporate hymns! We worship the One True God, encouraging your participation.

What is the preaching like?

We preach from one book - the Bible.  We have two goals in preaching. One, theological truth - what does God's word say. Two, relevant application - what does it mean to me. Our prayer is that there are always action steps to take home and implement into your life.

Are guests asked to stand up?

No. Years ago, when I visited a church, they asked all the "first-time visitors" to stand so everyone could see them. No way in the world was I going to stand up! I didn't know what they were going to do to me! On a typical Sunday, we will verbally welcome all of our guests who are visiting for the first time. We want you to feel welcome at AELC - but we don't want you to feel embarrassed or singled out.

How long is the Sunday service?

A typical worship service at AELC lasts about 60-75 minutes. We are not "mastered" by the clock, but we also understand the culture in which we live.

Where do my kids go?

We have an AWESOME youth ministry. Christian Education is from 9:15 to 10:15am. When you arrive, ask one of our greeters to assist you to find your child's sunday school class. We offer a special children's message for the younger children during the pastor's message but of course, if you feel more comfortable, parents are welcome to keep their kids with them during the entire worship service.

Will my kids be safe?

We have made every effort to ensure the safety of our children and adults. Childcare workers have approved background checks run through law enforcement agencies. We value the lives of every person who walks in our doors.

Can I talk with a pastor?

After the service, please greet the pastor and ask questions about the church.

Is lunch provided?

Although we don't provide a lunch, we often have members who provide drinks and donuts or snacks immediately following the service during the summer months. We have coffee available. This is a great time to "hang around" and meet other people who call AELC 'home.'

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday Morning at 9am during the summer and at 8:15 or 10:30am in fall, winter, and spring!

You are loved,
Pastor Tom
